Abstract

Ebelere verilen empati eğitiminin postpartum dönemde annelerin eklentilerini karşılama, doğumu ve ebeyi algılama düzeyine etkisiAmaç: Ebelere verilen empati eğitiminin; erken postpartum dönemde annelerin ebelerden beklediği empatik iletişim becerileri beklentilerini karşılama, doğumu ve ebeyi algılama düzeyine etkisini incelemektir.Gereç ve Yöntemler: Deneysel nitelikte olan çalışma, Şubat - Ekim 2013 tarihlerinde Trabzon'da KEA hastanesinde gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırmanın evrenini ebe yardımıyla vajinal doğum yapan anneler, örneklemini güç analizine göre belirlenen 134 primipar anne oluşturmaktadır. Anneler; ebelerin empati eğitim öncesi ve sonrası doğuranlar olmak üzere iki grup olup, 15 ebenin doğumuna yardım ettiği (doğumun 1.,2.,3.evresi ve postpartum ilk 2 saat) kadınlardır. Ebelere; didaktik anlatım, yaratıcı drama, psikodrama gibi tekniklerle 32 saatlik empati eğitimi verilmiştir. Veriler; "anne tanıtıcı bilgi" ve "tutum anketi " formlarıyla toplanmıştır. Tutum anketi formu, literatür doğrultusunda araştırmacılar tarafından hazırlanan, Likert tipi puanlama sisteminden oluşmaktadır. Veriler, annelerin ebelerin empati eğitimi öncesi ve sonrası doğurma dönemlerine göre, iki aşamada toplanmıştır. Araştırmada etik kurul izni ve annelerden yazılı onam alınmıştır. Veriler; Ki-Kare, Wilcoxon testleriyle değerlendirilmiştir. Bulgular: Doğumda annelerin ebelerden beklediği 22 tane empatik iletişim beklentisinin; 21'inin ebelerin eğitimi öncesi doğuranlarda karşılanmadığı (p<0.05); eğitim sonrası doğuranlardaysa 22 beklentinin 9'unun beklenildiği gibi (p>0.05), geriye kalan 13'ününde beklentinin üzerinde karşılandığı saptanmıştır (p<0.05). Ebelerin empati eğitimi öncesi doğuran annelerin %6'sı, eğitim sonrası doğuranlarınsa %19.4'ü doğumunu "kolay" algılamışlardır. Ebesini "iyi" algılama oranı ebelerin eğitim öncesi doğuranlarda %44.8; sonrası doğuranlarda %79.1'tir. Olası bir sonraki doğumunu "aynı ebeyle doğurmayı istemesi" eğitim öncesi doğuranlarda %46.3, sonrası doğuranlarda %73.1'dir(p<0.05) Sonuç: Ebelere verilen empati eğitiminin; annelerin beklentilerini karşılamada, doğumu ve ebeyi algılamada olumlu etkisi vardır

The effect of empathy training given to midwives upon meeting mothers' expectations and level of perceiving labor and midwives during postpartum periodAim: The study aimed to investigate the effect of empathy training given to midwives upon meeting mothers' expectations about empathic communication skills of midwives and level of perceiving of labor and midwives during early postpartum period.Material and Method: This experimental study was done at KEA Hospital located in Trabzon Province between February and October 2013. The population of the study was composed of mothers who gave vaginal delivery with the help of midwives. The sample of the study was consisted of 134 primiparous mothers determined by power analyses. Mothers who were helped by 15 midwives who worked at delivery room during 1st, 2nd, 3rd hours of labor and first two hours of postpartum period were clustered into two groups: mothers who gave birth before the empathy training given to midwives and those who gave birth after the empathy training given to midwives. Both groups were homogenous in socio-demographic and obstetric characteristics. Midwives received a training of 32 hours through didactic narration, creative drama, psycho-drama.The data were collected using a &quot;mother descriptive information form&quot; and an &quot;attitude questionnaire&quot;. The attitude questionnaire consists of a Likert-type scoring system prepared by the researchers reviewing the literature. The data were collected at two stages according to the mothers' receiving empathy training before or after giving birth. The study received ethics approval and written consents. The data were expressed as rate (%), chi-square, Wilcoxon tests. Results: It was found out that 21 of 22 empathic communication skills expected from midwives during labor were not met among the mothers who gave birth before the empathy training (p&lt;0.05); however, 9 of 22 empathic communication skills were met as expected (p&gt;0.05) while 14 of 22 empathic communication skills were met above the expected level among the mothers who gave birth after the empathy training given to midwives (p&lt;0.05). 6% of mothers who gave birth before the empathy training and 19.4% of mothers who gave birth after the empathy training perceived labor as &quot;easy&quot;. 44.8% of mothers who gave birth before the empathy training and 79.1% of mothers who gave birth after the empathy training perceived midwife who provided care as &quot;good&quot; (p&lt;0.05).Conclusion: The empathy training given to midwives had effects upon meeting mothers' expectations and labor and midwife perception
